F.A.Qs about Zoom and online classes
A number of you have had questions about how to connect to online classes. Hopefully this will be helpful.
Please sign up on www.Zoom.Com and download the application to your computer. Then you can REGISTER for the classes and get your personalized link, which you can then use every time you want to come to class. It will work for all the classes!
For the best experience, you’ll want to join us from a device with a video camera and microphone. This way, I can both see and hear you. You have the option to join class without video from your end if you prefer.
Will I be seen in my house as I am practicing?
That’s up to you! Once you click to join the classroom, you will have the choice to join with our without video. Note that your NAME will show up on the screen whether or not your video is on. If you prefer, you can go to your Zoom profile and change your name to a nickname or just your initials.
Can people see my name?
Yes people can see your name unless you change your name under your profile settings. For your own privacy, you may want to change the name on your profile to a nickname or just your initials.
Can I change the view so I am only seeing the teacher?
“Speaker” view allows you to follow the teacher, while “Gallery” view will show other students in the class. Since a lot of us know each other, it can be nice to connect this way.
Can I ask questions during the practice?
During class, your microphone will be muted. This reduces audio feedback for all attendees. You can ask questions by taking yourself off of mute. I will stop for questions throughout class.
What should I do if my internet connection isn’t working well?
If your internet connection slows down during class, try turning off your video camera so you can still see the class, but the teacher and other people in class can’t see you. This helps decrease the load on your wifi connection. It also helps to hard wire your computer to the modem using a coaxial cable. then you are not relying on your wi-fi connection, rather you are relying on the internet service itself.
What is the best browser to use for virtual classes?
Zoom works best when using the Chrome web browser if you are using your laptop and not the desktop app.
